Annual carnival held in Bologna, Italy, in August, for over 500 years, celebrating the Feast of St Bartholomew and also the victory of Bolognese forces over Frederick II during the Battle of Fossalta in 1249. The carnival concluded with the city's nobles feasting on a roasted suckling pig.
