Philosophical concept central to Navajo aesthetics and culture. Advocates for individuals to be balanced and in harmony with other spiritual and material aspects of Navajo life (landscape, community, etc.) In Navajo material culture and art, beauty is achieved through this balance. This concept can be seen expressed in textiles and pottery through their balanced compositions and in sandpainting in its illustrations of interconnected, harmonious relationships between people, animals, spirits, and the land. Also is applied to contemporary art made by Navajo artists.
