Unique number that identifies an audiovisual work throught its life, used for the work and all of its manifestations in different media. Each ISAN comprises 16 hexadecimal digits, the first 12 of which are unique to the audiovisual work, with the other 4 digits reserved for part numbers. In machine-readable versions, an additional check digit is added.
