General term for many species of tall wetland grasses of various genera in the order Poales, including the families Poaceae, Cyperaceae, Sparganiaceae, Typhaceae, and Restionaceae. Some of the common characteristics of reeds are that they grow in water or marshy ground, often in large stands, and have tall, stiff stems.
