A style of art in India developed by Abanindranath Tagore and his followers in the early 20th century that remained popular until the 1920s. Inspired by Mughal miniatures and Japanese ink wash painting, the Bengal school was created in response to European academic teaching as a way to revive Indian traditions and create a national art.
