In a given region or community, the term may be by law reserved for a doctor of medicine or osteopathy, podiatrist, dentist, chiropractor, clinical psychologist, optometrist, nurse practitioner, nurse-midwife, clinical social worker who is authorized to practice medicine, or other defined specialists.
