Medicinal concoction of varying ingredients, usually a fermentation of herbs and other ingredients. It was used as an antidote to poison and bites of venomous serpents. First known by the Greeks in the 1st century CE; widely adopted in the ancient world in Europe, China, and India through trade along the the Silk Road.
