Ancient alphasyllabic script, noted as one of the oldest writing systems used in South and Central Asia, dating approximately 3rd century BCE and earlier to 3rd century CE and later. Important examples of Brahmi inscriptions include edicts inscribed in stone in Northern Central India from 3rd century BCE.
