Dishes or shallow or deeper bowls used to hold the consecrated hosts during their distribution during the Christian liturgy. This bowl or dish is used for the distribution of communion in place of a ciborium. For bowls, often two-handled, used to hold consecrated wine, use "communion bowls (vessels for wine)."
