Species of small deciduous tree having prickly branches with leaves and brush-like inflorescences; native to semi-desert regions of Sub-Saharan Africa, Oman, Pakistan, and northwestern India. It is the source of gum arabic considered to have superior properties over other sources of gum arabic. Formerly classified in genus Acacia.
