Language that forms a separate branch of the Indo-European language family, spoken primarily in Armenia, but also in Georgia, Russia, Iran, and elsewhere. Armenian, like Greek, is a single language. Speakers of Armenian are recorded by the 6th century BCE, but the oldest Armenian texts date from the 5th century CE.
