Nishi Sarayama

A type of Japanese folk, or mingei, ceramic first produced in the Edo period. Its name (“West Plate Mountain” in English) refers to its production area in Fukuoka prefecture.in northern Kyushu. A distinct ceramic style peculiar to the reddish brown stoneware soy sauce jars, sake flasks, and mortars manufactured by the kilns of Nishi Sarayama has been identified by scholars in recent years.
