Refers to an emerging interdisciplinary field which seeks to integrate scientific study of art into the practice of art history; and the interpretative methods of the art historian into the conservation lab. An outgrowth of the subdiscipline of art history once known as Technical Studies, the field has recently established itself within graduate program curricula.
