The sport of pitting gamecocks (male chickens) to fight each other, often with metal spurs afixed to their feet; the sport was formerly was commonly practiced, but is now illegal in most countries. It was popular in ancient times in India, China, and Persia; it spread to Greece, Asia Minor, Europe, and the Americas.
