A game played on a court, typically indoor over a net with rackets and a shuttlecock. It is a combination of the children's game of battledore and shuttlecock. It is believed that the modern game was developed by British army officers in India, and was so name after a version of the game was played at Badminton House in 1873 by officers on leave, although there is no evidence of this.
